The project began in 2004 as a hospital based system of care for both nutrition rehabilitation and the treatment of the critically ill child who could not afford medicine.
As the project evolved, we have slowly but surely moved away from this system of care to a system that seeks to prevent malnutrition and sickness from happening in the first place. It has allowed us to focus all funds in to one specific area which is nutrition. Our hospital beds are now used only for the severest cases of malnutrition in women and children who require admission to hospital. In many cases this type of admission is necessary for emergency blood transfusions.
